DENMEAD HORSE SHOW 2010
The main Denmead Horse show takes place on Sunday September 5th at Forest Road, Denmead. With 7 rings in action from 9.00 am there are 66 classes and 10 Championships. The many showing classes include sections for Working Hunter, Mountain & Moorland ponies, Arabs, Coloureds, Veterans & Miniatures with qualifiers for the Miniature Horse of the Year Show. The children’s ring encompasses Showing, Games and Show Jumping. There is also a Show Jumping Ring.
In its 17th year the show has attracted sponsorship from some well known local and national sponsors including the Supreme Championship sponsored by Guy Salmon Land Rover, Best Turned Out Horse/Pony & Rider sponsored by Joules Clothing. The other main sponsors include the Miniature Championship sponsored by the Southern Co-operative and the Mountain & Moorland Championship, sponsored by Atlas Trailers.
The show attracts competitors from a wide area, across Hampshire, neighbouring counties and further afield. This year additional effort has been made to try to attract more trade shows and sponsors participation to provide varied and greater entertainment for the spectators and visitors, with many sponsors exhibiting and promoting their goods and services.
The shows are run by Denmead Swings and Things, a local community group with profits going to support their youth projects in Denmead, in particular Denmead Activity Nights (the junior youth club run in conjunction with the Parish Council and the Police) the funding of which has been affected by the current government cuts. An immediate project to benefit from this summer’s shows is the club’s 4 day activity trip to Wales.
